Movement overview

The Wide Grip Standing Barbell Curl is an isolation exercise targeting the biceps brachii, particularly emphasizing the short head due to the wide grip. This exercise helps in building overall arm strength and muscle mass, enhancing the peak of the biceps.

Execution

Step-by-step cues

  1. Stand upright with your feet shoulder-width apart, holding a barbell with a wide grip, palms facing forward.
  2. Ensure your grip is wider than shoulder-width to target the short head of the biceps.
  3. Keep your elbows close to your torso and maintain a slight bend in your knees for stability.
  4. Curl the barbell upwards by contracting your biceps, keeping your upper arms stationary.
  5. Continue lifting until your biceps are fully contracted and the bar is at shoulder level.
  6. Pause briefly at the top of the movement, squeezing your biceps.
  7. Slowly lower the barbell back to the starting position, maintaining control throughout the descent.
  8. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
